Christmas Day and Eve

We had a fantastic Christmas! We celebrated Christmas Day 3 different times plus our normal Christmas Eve. We loved being able to have all this time with our family after not being home the last two years. Here’s our recap and overshare of pictures!

Christmas Eve was spent at my parents house with our family friends. My parents switched up the typical meal and my Dad smoked some ribs and turkey. I’m demanding it to be the new tradition. The turkey was phenomenal!

Look at that beauty!Christmas-1Christmas-3 Christmas-4

Our family friends have a new puppy, June who they brought with for us to meet. Addy loved her!  She was a cutie and we can’t wait to play with her again!Christmas-6

On Christmas Day Addy slept in until  just after 7. Santa visited at some point in the night. Most of those presents were for one little girl. Christmas was an all day affair. She started her stocking when she woke up at 7 and we opened the last gift around 3. Addy played with everything and was not that interested in the unopened gifts! She clearly doesn’t take after me on Christmas day!

She got bath toys and bubbles, some chocolate, tooth brush and an ornament. Christmas-21Bigger than her!Christmas-22Addy is obsessed with dogs! How appropriate that she got a Texas themed dog ornament. She kept wanting to play with it, but it was glass so we just looked at it with our eyes.

The next day we headed to Lafayette to celebrate Christmas with Taylor’s family. His aunt and cousins were arrived later in the evening from New York. We loved getting to see everyone! We did miss Uncle Ryan, but luckly we got to see him when we returned to Texas for a day!

25 Days of Christmas: Part 3

This week has totally gotten away from me! Sorry I didn’t get this posted sooner! Here’s the last activities of our 25 days of Christmas. I’ve got a ton of Christmas Eve and Day and Christmas in Lafayette to get uploaded to the computer, hopefully I’ll have those posted soon!

Day 17: Travel

Addy and I packed our bags and headed north to start our next adventures. She was a great flyer! At home, she enjoyed Nana’s Christmas tree, Grumpy’s outdoor decorations and dinner at El Taco Real.

Day 18: McCord’s Candy Canes

On Friday, Addy, Uncle Dave and I headed out of town for the weekend to visit family in Indy. We stopped in Lafayette for lunch with Taylor’s parents and made a stop at McCord’s Candies for homemade Candy Canes. They were delish!Christmas-25Days-1

Day 19: Indiana State Museum

Aunt Katie and Uncle Andrew planned an exciting afternoon. We visited the Indiana State Museum which had 50 holiday trees on display. We really enjoyed our visit. The trees were awesome and the rest of the museums exhibits were pretty neat too. I totally recommend a visit!

Our family loves this movie and this greeted us at the door!Christmas-25Days-3I don’t know who was more excited!

After the museum we headed to a German Christmas market. Addy thought it was hilarious that we had her all bundled up. It was actually pretty chilly, but she was handling it pretty well! The market was a tad bit of a bust, but I’m glad we tried it out. Christmas-25Days-17 Christmas-25Days-18 Christmas-25Days-19 Christmas-25Days-20 Christmas-25Days-21

Day 22: Downtown Chicago

We attempted a celebration for our Mom’s(Katie and I) 60th birthday downtown. It was a big bust. The highlight of the day was Addy’s enjoyment of the snowmen at Nordstroms. IMG_2128

I forgot to take pictures, but it was tasty!

Indiana Summer: 2015

Addy and I returned from Wisconsin for a short stay at my parents in Indiana. We spent time hanging around the house, swimming, running errands, seeing family and took a crazy day trip.

On Tuesday, our friend Mandy picked us up bright and early to start our day trip to  Indianapolis. Our first stop of the day was at Purdue University. We thought we would have time to walk a round campus and book stores before we visisted with grandparents and great grandparents, but we ran short on time and hit the bookstores. It was a bust of a shopping spree and we didn’t even find anything good! Addy did get a picture outside of one of our college hangouts!IndianaSummer2015-8

After Purdue we had a nice visit with Taylor’s parents and Grandparents. We had Arni’s for lunch outside on their patio. Addy of course loved the attention and getting to play outside. After lunch, we hit the road again and had an unplanned stop at our friend Bill’s work. It was right on the way and we hadn’t seen him in a really long time, it was nice to have a quick chat. Getting on the road again we headed south to Indianapolis, our first stop was visiting our friend Kelly that has twin girls a few months older than Addy. It was great to meet the girls and catch up with Kelly. Addy was amazed watching them walk around and play. I think she was slightly jealous of all of thier cool toys too! Our last stop of the day was at my cousin Katie and Andrew’s new house. We hung out and went out to dinner in downtown Carmel. After dinner, we packed up, put Addy in her PJ’s and made the trek back home to my parents. It was a whirlwind day. Big thanks to Mandy for driving and putting up with us all day!

She ate everyone’s food and ate a lot of it. It was a much better visit then her first time when she slept through the entire meal.

We had our family friends over for dinner one evening. Addy enjoyed eating, playing and cuddling! We even made Uncle Dave a belated birthday cake. IndianaSummer2015-10 IndianaSummer2015-9Aunt Opie Cake-Click for RecipeIMG_0863

That rounds out our quick week back in Indiana. Early Friday morning Addy and I hopped back on a plane and met Taylor in Newark Airport for another exciting weekend. Check back soon for more of our travel adventures!

Back Home in Indiana: Part 1

Our final night in Singapore we stayed at the hotel attached to the airport. This made our early morning flight so much easier. We woke up, grabbed two luggage carts, loaded them full with our six 70ish pound bags, two roller boards, small duffle bag, back pack, diaper bag, carseat and stroller and made our way. If there were more people in the airport I’m sure we would have got some stares. We walked from our hotel door to the plane with minimal stop time at check-in, customs, and security. Singapore has the most efficient airport I’ve ever been in. photo (14)

Our little world traveler once again was a rockstar on our 24 hour flight. The journey was much easier this time too since we all had our own business class seats. We arrived safely, soundly and jet lagged to my awaiting parents(Nana and Grumps) at O’hare. We filled the back of my Dad’s truck and headed home to eat and sleep.

Once home, Addy got to meet her puppy, Libby. Much to my surprise, Addy and Libby did really well together our whole visit. Libby did not eat any of Addy’s things and allowed Addy to pet her. Sometimes Addy didn’t have the timing down on when to pet her and Libby would escape, but they got on wonderfully. IMG_0094 2N&G-18N&G-20

Addy also experienced cold midwest weather and snow. She wasn’t a fan of having to be so bundled up!Snow-1 Snow-2

Our first few days were a blur. My Grandpa had been ill for most of 2015 and a visit to him was first on the agenda the morning after our arrival. I could not wait for him to get to meet Addy. We spent the morning at the nursing home and had a wonderful visit. Unfortunately and sadly, my Grandpa took a turn for the worse later in the afternoon Sunday and passed away Monday morning. I know that he waited for our visit and I’m glad he got to meet his Great-Granddaughter. My Grandpa will always be remembered for the laughter that follows him even his last few days.  It was so nice to see him before he passed and for him and Addy to meet, hopefully she’ll get some of his “funny gene” passed on to her.Great Grandpa-1

We had lots of hustle and bustle all week.  We ate, gathered, ran errands, and tried to rest.  I’m not sure if the all the commotion helped get over the jet lag quicker because we were forced to or made it worse. Jet lag by yourself as an adult is not fun, but its way worse when you are a nursing mother to a 5 month old.  By weeks end, we were back to our usual selves except Addy’s insatiable night time hunger. (Luckily, three weeks in we’re doing a bit better!)

While home we took Addy on a Northwest Indiana food tour. We introduced her to some of our families favorite places. She didn’t get any tastes this time, but in our next visit I’m sure she will! First on the list was pizza from Arrenello’s. Sorry no pictures, but it’s deep dish pizza with a sweet crust.

Then, Butterfingers a local delicatessen bakery was brought over by one of our cousins. They have great ham and chicken salad, a turkey and cheese salad, and tasty bakery goods.

For lunch one day we headed to Madviks for some polish sausage. Madviks was my Dad and I’s lunch stop every Saturday growing up after a visit to Grandma’s near by.IMG_0068 2 IMG_0069 2 IMG_0074 2

Thursday nights dinner consisted of El Taco Real. This is a Mexican restaurant that our family has been going to for ages. My parents remember taking me there in my car seat just like we took Addy!

A shared lunch treat!IMG_0081 2 She slept through the whole lunch.IMG_0084 2

Our last stop was at Munster Donut Saturday morning. Growing up this was a Saturday morning breakfast stop with my Dad. I used to get a donut on a stick and orange drink. While they still have donuts on a stick(I opted for a more grown up donut), they don’t sell orange drink anymore! Bummer!IMG_0095 2 IMG_0096 2 IMG_0097 2

The last big event at my parents was a “Meet Addy” pizza party. My parents hosted a party at one of the local pizza places and many of our family and friends joined us to meet Addy. It was great to see everyone and introduce our little one to them. We can’t wait to see everyone when we are back in town next time!

As you can tell, we had a busy week. We honored my Grandfather on Friday, ate at many favorite restaurants, ran errands around town, and visited with family and friends. I can’t wait to share about our time in Lafayette next week!

Have a Northwest Indiana favorite food stop? Let me know and I’ll add it to the list for next time!
