Two weekends ago we had a wonderful opportunity to visit Savannah, Georgia for a wedding of a close friend. We loaded up the car and headed south on 95. Our friends were married on Friday evening at a wonderful ceremony and reception at Vic’s on the River. We stayed right downtown on Bay Street at the Hampton Inn. It was a great location and close to everything.
Saturday was spent exploring Savannah, shopping, eating and drinking. First, Savannah has great squares around the city. Wonderful places to relax, sit and read a book, or people watch. Walking along West Broughton Street we popped in and out of fantastic stores. One of our favorite stops was relaxing around Ellis Square where there were people about, small vendors, and a DJ with people dancing. We met all of our college friends for lunch at B. Mathews Eatery on Bay Street. The food was great and it accommodation our larger group. When then headed to the City Market, which is a stretch of streets that are blocked off with bars and restaurants and live music playing where we had a drink. In Savannah you are allowed to carry open containers of alcohol. We were amazed by this. You could get a “to-go” cup from a bar, walk through the city into another bar and continue to drink. Crazy! Later in the afternoon our group did a bike trolley ride through town stopping at bars and squares. It was an entertaining and fun trip! Taylor and I finished the night eating at Rock on the River. It was super busy and without reservations, we ate at the bar. The food was yummy!
